All required papers to complete marriage document in Turkey (Part 1)

For the following nationalities: Syrian, Temporary protection cardholders (Kimlik), Moroccan, Iraqi, Lebanese, multinational.

Generally, Turkish law allows marriage only between a male and a female, and does not allow polygamy, as marriage in Turkey is based on civil law (what so-called 'the civil marriage').

Moreover, Turkish law does not allow the marriage of minors, i.e., those under the age of seventeen, and for those at the age of seventeen years, they are not allowed to marry unless the parents or guardian consent.

On another hand, marriage is allowed for those over the age of eighteen without the consent of the parents.


As for the papers required to complete the marriage process, we will review them as follow:


Holders of Syrian nationality

  1. As a Syrian Citizen you need firstly a Civil Registration Certificate (Civil Registration Extract) for each of the newlyweds from the Population Department in your region in Syria, certified by the Syrian Foreign Ministry and the Syrian Consulate in Istanbul; this paper should be later translated into Turkish by a Sworn Translator and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  2. This process is to prove your marital status that you are single and that there is no objection to complete the marriage in Turkey, as Turkish law forbids polygamy, as we mentioned previously.

  3. Your original Passport and a copy of it translated into Turkish and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  4. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  5. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  6. A Medical Examination Certification (Health Certification) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  7. Six personal biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  8. A Parentage Verification Certification in case one of the newlyweds changed his name or nickname in the past.

  9. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  10. Your Address Document in Turkey.

  11. A copy of the Residence Permit in Turkey for each of the newlyweds (work permit, tourist residence permit, or any other type of legal residence permit in Turkey).


Temporary Protection Card Holders (Kimlik) of all nationalities

  1. A copy of the Temporary Protection Card (Kimlik) for each of the newlyweds.

  2. A Certificate of Celibacy (Bekarlık Belgesi) from the police department (Yabancılar Şube Müdürlüğü) of the city from which the Temporary Protection Card (Kimlik) was issued.

  3. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  4. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  5. A Medical Examination Certification (Sağlık Belgesi) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  6. Six biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  7. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  8. Your Address Document (Adres Belgesi) in Turkey.


Holders of Moroccan nationality

  1. A Birth Certification and Celibacy Certification (Civil Registration Extract) for each of the newlyweds, certified by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry. At the consulate, both Certifications are replaced with a paper stating that there is no objection to the marriage, written in Turkish language, which need later to be certified by Qaim Maqam.

  2. Your original Passport and a copy of it translated into Turkish and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  3. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  4. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  5. A Medical Examination Certification (Health Certification) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  6. Six personal biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  7. A Parentage Verification Certification in case one of the newlyweds changed his name or nickname in the past.

  8. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  9. Your Address Document (Adres Belgesi) in Turkey.

  10. A copy of the Residence Permit in Turkey for each of the newlyweds (work permit, tourist residence permit, or any other type of legal residence permit in Turkey), as it is possible to complete the marriage document without having a residence permit for each of the newlyweds in Turkey.


Holders of Iraqi nationality

  1. For an Iraqi national, you must submit a notice of your desire to marry to the nearest Iraqi consulate in Turkey. After that you need these following documents:

  2. A Birth Certification and Celibacy Certification (Civil Registration Extract) for each of the newlyweds, certified by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. At the consulate, both Certifications are replaced with a paper stating that there is no objection to the marriage, written in Turkish language, which need later to be certified by Qaim Maqam.

  3. Your original Passport and a copy of it translated into Turkish and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  4. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  5. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  6. A Medical Examination Certification (Health Certification) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  7. Six personal biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  8. A Parentage Verification Certification in case one of the newlyweds changed his name or nickname in the past.

  9. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  10. Your Address Document (Adres Belgesi) in Turkey.

  11. A copy of the Residence Permit in Turkey for each of the newlyweds (work permit, tourist residence permit, or any other type of legal residence permit in Turkey), as it is possible to complete the marriage document without having a residence permit for each of the newlyweds in Turkey.



Holders of Lebanese nationality

  1. A Civil Registration Certificate (Civil Registration Extract) for each of the newlyweds, certified by the Lebanese Foreign Ministry. At the Lebanese Consulate, both Certifications are replaced with a paper stating that there is no objection to the marriage, written in Turkish language, which need later to be certified by Qaim Maqam.

  2. Your original Passport and a copy of it translated into Turkish and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  3. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  4. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  5. A Medical Examination Certification (Health Certification) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  6. Six personal biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  7. A Parentage Verification Certification in case one of the newlyweds changed his name or nickname in the past.

  8. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  9. Your Address Document (Adres Belgesi) in Turkey.

  10. A copy of the Residence Permit in Turkey for each of the newlyweds (work permit, tourist residence permit, or any other type of legal residence permit in Turkey).


Multinational

In case of having more than one nationality, documents must be only obtained from one of the countries of which you hold its nationality. The documents required are the following:

  1. Civil Registration Certificate (Registration Extract) for each of the newlyweds, certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your country of citizenship and later certified by your country's embassy or consulate in Turkey, then it should be translated into Turkish by a sworn translator and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  2. Your original Passport and a copy of it translated into Turkish and certified by the notary public in Turkey (Noter).

  3. A Divorce Certification in case one of the spouses had a previous marriage.

  4. A Death Certification in a case of the death of an ex-husband or ex-wife.

  5. A Medical Examination Certification (Health Certification) issued by one of the medical centers licensed by the Marriage Department in Turkey.

  6. Six personal biometric photos of each of the newlyweds.

  7. A Parentage Verification Certification in case one of the newlyweds changed his name or nickname in the past.

  8. A Parental or Guardian Consent Certification in case one of the newlyweds is under the legal age (18 years).

  9. Your Address Document in Turkey.

  10. A copy of the Residence Permit in Turkey for each of the newlyweds (work permit, tourist residence permit, or any other type of legal residence permit in Turkey).
